Oh year with a very cute number
With a first date, that we’ll all remember.
It’s not just one followed by one
But one, then one, then one-one.
What you have in store, no one can tell.
Who can hear the chimes, ‘fore you ring the bell?
But “Welcome,” with all my heart I say,
“Bring peace and joy: for these we pray.”
I see many conflicts and many wars,
But I also see sunshine and stars.
I hear people who only say No!
But we have also the U.N.O.
I hear people calling each other name,
There are also scientists worthy of fame.
All around are noises of every kind
But also music of the sublime kind.
Silly books I sometimes get
And hateful ravings in the Internet.
But thoughtful people also write
To spread values that are right.
So for everything wrong and sad
There’s always something good, not bad.
Even the sins that mustn’t be done
Sometimes give us lots of fun.
This year will surely be fine:
If we see a State of Palestine,
May people there to enjoy a Feast
To toast Peace in the Middle East.
When all that tension finally ends
Arabs and Israelis will be friends.
Though this seems too much to ask,
I wish you success in this difficumorelt task.
I wish we quit Afghanistan
And handshakes ‘tween Ind and Pakistan.
I wish for the silence of roaring guns
I wish Democrats to like even Republicans
May science and religion see eye to eye,
To achieve this let people try.
Deep down we’re all the same,
No matter how we play the game.
I wish good health for every plant and tree
I want more ice cream flavors, sugar-free
I wish for pizzas, fries, tasty all
But with only zero cholesterol.
These wishes don’t arise from greed
They’re things the world doth direly need.
If you really get all this done
You will be One-One in more sense than one.
