Thoughts in the mind are like gases in a bottle.
You can never empty a bottle: you can replace one gas or a mixture of gases by something else.
So you can replace, but not eliminate negative thoughts completely.
Thoughts can be replaced by reading, listening, conversing, and reflecting.
Choose sources and topics for thoughts of different kinds.
It is good to have a few central themes, like:
Spreading love and friendship,
Helping the needy.
Eliminate hate and intolerance.
Learn about the world.
Humor.
Great poems.
Goodness in human beings.
….
Most of all if one commits oneself to systematic acts relating to these and similar positive themes, negative thoughts will not be able to enter the mind.
