People of any faith recognize that their faith has many beautiful truths, injunctions, and fulfilling aspects. Because of these they are enriched in countless ways by their affiliation to the faith.
But unless and until they consciously reject the declarations in their scriptures that are hurtful to people of other faiths, and recognize deep in their hearts attitudes and practices that degrade people within one’s own faith (lower castes, untouchables, women, another sect) and the condemnation of other faiths (unbelievers, kafirs, nastikas), and fellow humans of different sexual preferences, one cannot in good conscience feel better or more at peace with oneself or with people of other faiths.
Fortunately this awakening is slowly happening to an increasing number of people of ALL faiths in this century.
Peace, Salaam, Shalom, Shanti!
