Posted on 8 May 2024 COSMOLOGY: PER CURRENT SCIENCE PER CURRENT SCIENCE FIRST BIG BANG Current science seems to say Something quite different May not be as poetic or inspiring, Which, at least to some people, And whose details are for many Rather abstruse and opaque. But it strikes many others As reasonable and meaningful. This is the current view of Science Regarding how the World arose: The cosmos burst forth into a spatial void With a steady temporal flow, That interlinks Space and Time. Space is container of tangible Matter, While ceaseless Time is the channel For constant changes to occur. This first burst of cosmic birth Is described by modern science As a Big Bang that occurred, one reckons, Thirteen plus billion years ago. From the cosmic perspective It was not all that big Nor a bang that anyone heard. It was just emergence of Space and Time Ex nihilo: From nothing. At the same time there arose Tangible matter and subtle energy. Both were at once subject To inexorable Laws of Nature. From these arose in the world A myriad wondrous things That range from the quite simple To extremely complex ones. First came tiny mass-units called quarks, And along with them leptons As well as interacting bosons Which keep the world woven. The photon and the graviton, The W, Z and gluons are the cements That, invisibly and subtly intertwine And the sustain the physical world. Quarks and leptons are the matter, And bosons are the glue Generating the unseen forces That keep things from falling apart. These cause all the twists and turns Causing the physical world. So says the Standard Model. When the initial primal specks Of matter and energy emerged There was absolutely nothing grand In that new-born primeval universe.
