I. Introduction: Art forms are of three kinds: Visual (painting, sculpture), Literary (poetry, fiction), performing (music, dance). All have impact on our inner experience.
Music is one of the finest expressions of human creativity. It finds expression in countless ways. Music appreciation depends largely on familiarity and frequency of exposure.
Opera: Is a complex performing art. It includes (a) Music, both instrumental and vocal; (b) Narrative (story) : (c) Theater (acting and emotions).
Goal: Bring aesthetic pleasure to the audience through fine expressions of the human voice as well as of instrumental music. This is done through stories, ancient and modern, and the use of poetic language.
Impact: Operas evoke our emotions, and in the process convey some deep truths about the human condition. Invariably this is presented in a framework of unrealistic actuality (Stories).
Side benefits: Aside from musical enjoyment, operas also inform and educate us about mythologies, history, period-culture, and classical literature
Linguistic traditions: There are five primary languages for the most commonly performed operas: Italian, German, French, English, and Russian. Operas have also been written in other languages, such as Czech, Hungarian, Latin and Sanskrit.
