REFLECTIONS IN RHYMES

CLOSED RELIGIONS

1.   Bigots become more dangerous

When they secure power over us.

2.   Religious groups are good, you’ll find,

When not close to groups  of another  kind.

3.   For the true believer, this is the test:

He is sure his own belief is the best.

4.   Fanatics who have power indeed,

Dictate what one must and mustn’t read.

5.   “God is great!” fanatics exclaim.

Kill themselves after they others maim.

6.   Self-righteous fervor is a force indeed

That provokes wars as much as greed.

7.   All religious bigots are arrogant.

Of God and history, they are ignorant.

8.   Who cling to every ancient thought,

Of modern science, they know just naught,

9.   Religions do have a role to play.

But on everything they shouldn’t have a say?

10. Religion is narrow if it doesn’t care

For the poor and the hungry out there.
