SANÁTANA DHARMA: HINDUISM
Of one the earliest of religions
That emerged and flourishes in India
That outsiders call today Hinduism,
Is referred to by many practitioners
As Sanātanadharma.
This term may be rendered into English
As Eternal Code for Righteous Living.
This religion has been practiced for ages
In the Indian subcontinent.
THE VEDAS
The basic texts of this religion
Are known as the (four) Vedas.
Their authors were ancient sage-poets
Known reverentially Vedic rishis.
The rishis are said to have heard
The rhythmic lines of this scripture
Emanated from supernatural sources
Which are somewhere in the Cosmos.
The visions of the Vedic Rishis
Are expressed in sacred serene Sanskrit
In poetic meters and referred to
As shlokas and mantras.
The Vedic rishis enunciated all the
Supernatural Principles that undergird
The physical world in subtle ways.
These can be realized only through
Contemplation and meditation which are
Intense and spiritually disciplined focusing
Of the mind on the profound Mystery
Of the experienced universe.
RELIGIOUS OLYODOSISM
One rishi’s spiritual wisdom inspired him
To refer to the Divine as sutt: which
Means Essence or Truth; and he said
Sutt is One, and the awakened ones
Call it in different ways
[Ekam sutt, viprā bahudha vadanti]:
Thia aphorism deserve to be
A motto for the UNO.
I refer to this as the vision of
Religious Polyodosism: Multiple paths
To the Unknown Divine.
