20 MARCUS Aurelius, the Roman Emperor and Stoic thinker is known for his Meditations: which he wrote in Greek), but was translated into Latin and other languages, sometimes with modifications. Thus, his statement: Ὅτι τὰ πράγματα αὐτὰ καθ’ ἑαυτά· ἀλλὰ τὰς κρίσεις ἡμεῖς περὶ αὐτῶν ποιοῦμεν.

Latin Translation : Res ipsae per se sunt, sed iudicia de iis nos facimus.

English translation: “Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”
